Story." There are also many letters of Story's between Logan, Hannah Penn and
others. Also other interesting papers, some letters that had not been previously
made public, were got together, and were in type last year* (Story and Logan
correspondence for publication), but unfortunately the printers had a fire at their
works and the type was destroyed. From a letter I had from the editor quite
recently it seems doubtful if it will be re-set. - T.W.
Mr. William M. Mervine, of Philadelphia, writes thus to the compiler of this work:- "Ocean City, N.J., Your letters of August 17th and 25th were received at my home in Edgewater Park, N.J. I am subject to hay-fever, and have felt so badly for several weeks that my correspondence has been neglected. We are now at the sea-shore, where I get some relief, I hope you will pardon the delay. On a separate sheet I send some information concerning Thomas Story and his wife Anne Shippen, After my return home, about October 1st, I will endeavour to secure some information of Joseph Story, of Mass., from records in the library of the Pennsylvania Historical Society. It is always a pleasure to hear from persons interested in local history and genealogy, and to hear from Thompson Wigham, of Carlisle, who was most kind to me when I was there. I hope this information may be of some use. If there are other points in which I may be able to help you please let me know. Yours very truly, "Ann Shippen, born June 17th, 1684; died, without issue, Dec. 6th, 1712; married July 10th, 1706, Thomas Story, the first Recorder of the City of Philadelphia, Master of the Rolls, Keeper of the Great Seal, a member of the Provincial Council and of the Commission of Property. In 1706 he was chosen Mayor, and, on refusing to serve, was fined £20 by the Council. After his wife's death Thomas Story returned to England, where he died in 1742. (The ancestry of Rosalie Morris Johnson, page 191, Philadelphia, 1905)." "Edward Shippen, baptized at Methley, Yorkshire, March 5th, 1639, son of William and Mary Shippen, died in Philadelphia, October 2nd, 1712; married, first, 1671, Elizabeth Lybrand, of Boston, who died in that city October 25th, 1688.
