THE STORYS OF LOCKINGTON.
John Bainbrigge Story, of Lockington, Esq., born on the 20th September, 1779, died
on the 26th May, 1827, being killed on a Swiss lake, married Sophia, sister of Sir
Charles Knightley, second baronet of Fawsley, and younger daughter of the Rev.
Charles Knightley, B.C.L., Rector of Preston Capes and Vicar of Fawsley, and by
her - born 1st June, 1787, died 22nd May, 1881, buried 27th at Lockington - had
issue eight children.
By this union the Story family have a royal descent from Edward III., through four of his sons - Lionel of Antwerp, John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, Edmund of Langley, and Thomas of Woodstock. The Knightleys descend from Sir Rainald Knightley, who came to England with William the Conqueror, and is named in Domesday Book as mesne lord of Knightley in the county of Stafford. John Bainbrigge Story and Sophia, Knightley, had issue: 1, Mary; 2, John Bainbrigge; 3, Henrietta Jane; 4, Diana; 5, Philip William, B.A., Clerk; 6, Valentine Frederick, General in the Army, of the Forest, Nottingham, born on the 21st February, 1818, at Derby, married on the 30th December, 1847, to Williamina, daughter of William Moody, Esq., of Roe House, Newtown, Limaruly, county Derry, and by her, who was born on the 20th March, 1825, had seven children, namely :

Valentine Charles, C.E. in Australia, born at Nottingham on the 14th October, 1853, married on the 7th January, 1886, to Lena Josephine, daughter of Ernest Kruth, of Sydney, N.S.W., and by her, who was born 1st January, 1864, has issue a daughter, Olive Wilhelmina Schreir, born at Carlton, Melbourne, Victoria, 15th October, 1886. 3. Edwin Henry of Manchester, born at Nottingham on the 6th April, 1857. 4. Richard Hawksworth, Lieutenant R.N., born 7th July, 1859. 5. Maria, born at Halifax, Nova Scotia, 21st April, 1849, died at Nottingham on the 9th January, 1887, buried at Lockington on the 13th of the said month. 6. Mary Sophia. 7. Jane Blanche.
8. Ellen Martha, born at Spratton on the 5th January, 1810, married 4th September, 1830, to the Rev. Ayscough Fawkes, B.A., Rector of Leathley, county York. He died on the 21st July, 1871. 169
