In 1737-8 an Edward Story is mentioned as Churchwarden of Lanercost Abbey Church. [Not a kinsman of the Rev. George Story, Vicar of Lanercost, mentioned in Section III., and at one time Curate of Nicholforest, a chapelry ten miles in length on the Scottish Border.]

Appendix VI. Tenants of the Barony of Gilsland within Lanercost parish. Fine Book is in the possession of the Earl of Carlisle. The book for 1655 is of special interest.

Before concluding this Section (VI.), which has to deal with the Scandinavian Stories or Sturës, and with the Storys of Boston, U.S.A. (of Cumberland origin, judging by their coat of arms), and the Storeys of Storeysgate, London, it will be just as well to insert here the following extracts from the Survey of the Border Lands, A.D. 1604.
