OLD NORTHUMBRIAN STOREYS.

From Vol. V., History of Northumberland-

1806, William Story, of the Chapelry of Brainshaugh, and Julius Caesar Foster, of this parish, were married.-Warkworth Registers.

Thomas Buston, by his marriage in 1787, with Phillis, daughter and heiress of John Storey, acquired the estate of Learchild and the great tithes of Beanley.

William Story held Broomhill, parish of Sholtey (p. 284, Vol. VI., ib.), as tenant, in 1663, at a rent of £5.

There are several members of the Buston family buried at Wetheral, near Carlisle, and also at Lancaster.

In Wetheral Churchyard is this memorial-

"Sacred to the memory of William Bustin, who died September 28th, 1823, aged 60 years; also of Rebecca, his youngest daughter, who died in Carlisle, July 6th, 1835, aged 23 years; and of Jane Ramsay, his grand-daughter, who died at Holm House, August 1st, 1835, aged 10 years. Also Mary, relict of the above William Bustin, who died at Lancaster July 11th, 1849, aged 80 years."

Mr. J. Moffat, nephew of Mr. Ralph Storey, of Beanley, has forwarded the following observations:-

"The earliest record of the Storey family of Beanley extant is the epitaph upon a headstone in Eglingham Churchyard, erected in memory of John Story, of Beanley, whose birth (assuming that he was born at Beanley) must have taken place in the year 1650.

"In the oldest list of voters for the County of Northumberland extant, and published by the Antiquarian Society of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, occurs the name of Fergus Storey, of Beanley, son of the John Storey aforesaid, who voted for a freehold in Beanley. The main branch of the family has remained in the occupation of Beanley, North Side, ever since in direct male line until the decease of Ralph, the last of his line direct, on the 20th Nov., 1859, unmarried,

(Signed) "ARTHUR STOREY MOFFAT.

"Dec 6th, 1860."
"Mary Story, sister of the above Ralph Storey, married Andrew Ker Moffat. The present Ralph Storey-Storey (formerly Ralph Storey Moffat), of Beanley, succeeded to the estates of his uncle, the above Ralph Storey, and, according to the will of his uncle, took the name of Storey.-J. MOFFAT."
