OLD NORTHUMBRIAN STOREYS.

In the Forster pedigree of Elford and Newton-by-the-Sea, Frances, daughter of Joseph (?) Forster and Mary Buston, of High Buston and Newton-by-the Sea, married Ralph Storey, of Beanly, 27th November, 1697. (Vol. II., His. of Northum.)

Francis Storey, of Abberwick, wife of Ralph Storey, gentleman.

Will of Frances Forster, 11th January, 1707.

Richard Storey, who murdered Jasper Craster, became a fugitive felon on account of this murder. Craster was a servant of the Earl of Northumberland. There appeals to have been a blood feud between the Hebburns, of Hebburn, and the Storeys. (See p. 175, Vol. II., His. of Northum.)

In 1523, Robert Carr, Bailiff, of Alnwick, rendered an account of 20s., being the value of a horse which he had seized from the goods of a fugitive felon, Richard Storey, who had fled after the murder of Jasper Craster aforesaid.

Probably Mr. H. H. E. Craster, one of the authors of the Northumberland County History and a Fellow of All Souls' College, Oxford, was of the same family as that of Mr. Jasper Craster (Crasters. of Craster, in the parish of Embleton), who was killed by Richard Story. (See Vol. II., His. of Northum. Note on p. 175.)

In the pedigree of the Carrs, of Lesbury, Susan Storey, of Beanly, is mentioned as having become the wife of Michael Carr, of Bondicar, 28th May, 1763. Died 28th May, 1837. Eglingham Registers.

In a Muster Roll, dated 1538, John Storre, of Lytell Howgton, is mentioned.

In the pedigree of the Wetwangs, of Dunstan, mention is made of a Mrs. Wetwang, a lady who always wore a magnificent gold chain on the 20th June of every year, this date being the birthday of the Old Pretender. She had a sister who was married to Jonathan Storey.

Mrs. Wetwang was probably the wife of William Wetwang, son of Mr. Richard Wetwang, of Dunstan.

Vincent Proctor, of Rock, married Mary Storey, of Shilbottle. Bond of marriage dated 17th July, 1756. See p. 193, Vol. II., His. of Northum. Vincent Proctor was baptized at Embleton, Septem. 15, 1702. The Proctors were of Clayport, Alnwick; and Shilbottle. Died circa 1760.

Robert Storye, Copyholder, is mentioned in a Survey of Hexham Manor. Rent 10s. 6d. Dates of payment-St. Martin's and Whitsuntide. Robert Storye is described as a Holder. (p. 67, Vol. III., His. of Northum.)

Robert Storye, 13d. Treasury Lands. 1547. (p. 68, ib.)

Thomas Storye held lands in Bingfield, as tenant, at a yearlie rent of 8s. Survey of Hexham Manor, (p. 87, ib.) He was a copyholder in Wall Greaveship, 1608; Messuage with appurtenances, rent I4s. 6d. Yearly value above rent 30s. This Thomas Story appears to have had a brother Mark Story, as will be seen when we come to the pedigree of the Stories of Bingfield, Hexham, a family now settled at Bingfield, County Cavan, and Mount Salus, Dalkey, County Dublin. This Thomas Story was probably a son of the Thomas Story entered on the Muster Roll of 1538.
