OLD NORTHUMBRIAN STOREYS.
The daughters of Fergus Storey, of Harehope, son and heir of John Storey, of
Beanley, who bought the west side of Learchild on the 16th April, 1677, and a
moiety of Harehope was buried on the 26th May, 1701. He had issue - Mary Storey,
Ann Storey, Jane Storey, Elizabeth Storey, Sarah Storey, Frances Storey, Eleanor
Storey and Dorothy Storey.
John Storey, of Learchild, married first, Margaret, widow of Charles Carr, of Eshot, and secondly, Jane, daughter of Thomas Gallimore. He resided at Alnwick. Died 2nd July, 1690. Arthur Storey, second son, of Berrington, had issue-John Storey, of Beanley, only son, and the executor of his father's will. He was buried on the 2nd December, 1808, aged 94 years. (Eglingham Registers.) Will is dated 18th January, 1805. Proved 8th July, 1809. He married Mary, daughter of John and Isabella Wood, of Hagghouse. Died 22nd July, 1825, æt 61. The sisters of Arthur Storey were:- Mary Story, ob infans, Jane, Susanna and Mary, who married William Coulter, of Lesbury. His children were John, of Bolton Wood. Hall, buried 4th May, 1850. Arthur, buried 24th November, 1792. Ralph, of Beanley, baptized 16th January, 1797, buried 24th November, 1759, aged 62. He married Susanna, daughter of Michael Carr, of Ditchburn, on the 12th May, 1829. She was baptized in 1787. Mary, mother of Mr. Ralph Storey-Storey's mother, baptized 3rd August, 1789, married to Andrew Ker Moffat, of Beanley; and Isabella, baptized 19th January, 1794, buried 6th October, 1799. Mr. Ker Moffat was Bailiff to the Duke of Northumberland and great grandfather of Mr. Moffat, now of the Duke's School, Alnwick. There is mention of a petition by Fergus Storey concerning the living of Rothbury. Robert Clavering, or his representative, sold a moiety of Learchild to John Storey, of Beanley. The last John Storey, of High Learchild, left two daughters and co-heiresses, one of whom married Thomas Buston, of High Buston, by whose son, Roger Buston, this small estate comprising about two hundred and seventy acres was sold in 1849 to the Honorable H. T. Liddell, and now belongs to Baron Ravensworth. (See p. 187, Vol. VII., His. of Northumb.)
STOREY OF ABBERWICK.
Ralph Storey, third son of John Storey, of Beanley, and Frances, daughter of Robert
Foster, of Hartlaw and Elford, upon whom, on his marriage, his father settled lands
in Abberwick, vivens 1715-1712. He voted for Knights of the Shire for Abberwick.
Was buried in Bolton Chapel 20th March, 1725-6. He married Frances, daughter of
Ralph Forster, of Hartlaw and Elford, on the 27th January, 1697-8. He had issue:-
